It was one of the residences of the Mughal emperors for a span of over 200 years. The monument was built out of sandstone and features a structure of Islamic architecture fused with traditional Mughal designs. This fort has bold significance in Indian history, where emperors used it as a centre for political meetings, celebrating and addressing the concerns of the empire. The place also houses museums that have significantly preserved the rich Mughal heritage.
