Established in 1874 by Jayajirao Scindia, the Maharaja of Gwalior, Jai Vilas Mahal is a nineteenth century castle. It is still the dwelling of his descendants. An excellent example of European structural design, the palace is decorated with gold furniture and massive chandeliers. It is predominantly well-known for its big Durbar Hall.
